Some independent movies and all major productions get listed on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb).  I maintain a list of area movies that might be of interest to local people on IMDb.

Welcome to

Kentucky Movie Net

Kentucky Movie Net is a free service to local actors, crew and production companies.

If you are interested in becoming involved in the local area film community, this is a good place to get started as well.  Most people begin as extras, production assistants or interns in low budged independent films.  Those with theater experience may give the movies a try  in a featured role.

Most local movies are shot on weekends and in the evenings.  This allows the crew and actors to hold down full time jobs.  Don't expect to make a lot of money!

Kentucky Movie Net is not an agency.  We don't find you jobs.  We simply have a Yahoo! Group that post news and casting calls for regional movies.  When you find a movie that you are interested in you need to contact the production company directly.  Even when it was posted by me (Bob C. Cooke), I usually don't have have any more information than what I posted on the Yahoo Group.

When I am acting as a casting director, I will include a link to my e-mail address in the text of the message for more information.  Most posts that go out in my name were found on other sites and copied or forwarded to the Yahoo Group.

Networking

Some times it really is who you know that counts.  Many small productions may not  post on these sites.  They use people they already know.  People who auditioned for earlier movies or people that they have worked with before.  That is why you need to meet the local filmmakers.  Working as an extra or a production assistant is the easiest way to make connections.  Going to premieres of local productions is another way to meet people who might be able to help you get started.  You can usually talk to the producers after the screening.
